About

Village Panchayat Chandor-Cavorim

The Village Panchayat of Chandor–Cavorim is situated in Salcete Taluka of South Goa District, and is having a population of 4,200. Chandor Village resounds with echoes of history of its glorious past and is set in a bowl shaped flatland, surrounded by hills, bordering on one side by river Kushawati, a tributary of the river Zuari. Chandor which was known earlier as Chandrapurmeaning city of Moon God as Chandreshwar or moon God was the family deity of Bhoj Kings who ruled from this city between 4th and 7th century, has a rich cultural heritage. To this day, Cavorim is referred to as “Kouddi” which in the Konkani version means “gateway”.The Kadamba Royals used to go to a well maintained pond at Gottli in Cavorim for a swim, specially built for the purpose. The village consisted of three hamlets namely Chandor, Cavorim and Guirdolim, each with its own commune and are distinct revenue villages. The Catholic community in these three villages is bound by a common Parish. The Church of our Lady of Bethlehem(NossaSenhora de Belem) is the only Church for the composite village.

Sarpanch’s Message !

I, Hipolito Dias, Sarpanch of Chandor-Cavorim, warmly welcome you to the official portal of our Panchayat. This platform has been created to provide you with easy access to information about government schemes, panchayat services, and other initiatives that directly benefit our people. When I assumed the responsibility of Sarpanch, my foremost commitment was to make the functioning of the Panchayat smoother, more transparent, and more accessible to the public. This website is helping citizens to save time, stay informed, and actively participate in village development. Our beloved village Chandor is blessed with a rich cultural and historical heritage. Preserving this legacy while embracing progress is our collective duty. I firmly believe that unity and cooperation are the keys to achieving our vision of making Chandor-Cavorim an ‘Adarsh Gram’ (Model Village).

I appeal to all citizens to make full use of this platform, not only to stay informed but also to contribute ideas and participate in shaping the future of our village. Together, let us promote transparency, accountability, and progress.

Let us work hand in hand to preserve our traditions, empower our youth, support our farmers and workers, and build a sustainable and prosperous community for generations to come.

Thank you all, and God bless.
