Village Panchayat Chandor-Cavorim
The Village Panchayat of Chandor–Cavorim is situated in Salcete Taluka of South Goa District, and is having a population of 4,200.
Chandor Village resounds with echoes of history of its glorious past and is set in a bowl shaped flatland, surrounded by hills, bordering on one side by river Kushawati, a tributary of the river Zuari.
Chandor which was known earlier as Chandrapurmeaning city of Moon God as Chandreshwar or moon God was the family deity of Bhoj Kings who ruled from this city between 4th and 7th century,has a rich cultural heritage.
To this day, Cavorim is referred to as “Kouddi” which in the Konkani version means “gateway”.The Kadamba Royals used to go to a well maintained pond at Gottli in Cavorim for a swim, specially built for the purpose.
The village consisted of three hamlets namely Chandor, Cavorim and Guirdolim, each with its own commune and are distinct revenue villages. The Catholic community in these three villages is bound by a common Parish. The Church of our Lady of Bethlehem(NossaSenhora de Belem) is the only Church for the composite village.
